| The Commission has designated approximately $1.5 million annually to support programs and services that enhance early childhood education in Contra Costa County. A series of events have been scheduled to help the Commission gain information about the early childhood field, review promising practices, determine local needs, and decide how to fund the strategy. These activities, from an Early Education Think Tank to a two-day Summit on early education, are intended to broaden the group of stakeholder thinking about best practices for early childhood education in Contra Costa County.
An Ad-hoc committee, comprised of 25 to 30 representatives from early childhood education, schools, business, and parents, will work with Commission members and staff in an advisory capacity throughout the process. This Committee will help synthesize the results of the Think Tank, provider/teacher focus groups, and the Summit in order to develop specific funding recommendations for the Commission by Spring 2003.
