| Join us! Contra Costa residents are stepping up and making a difference for children and families in their region of the county. Were building four Regional Groups of parents, child care providers, business people and representatives from community-based organizations. The Regional Groups provide a direct link between the community and the Commission. Regional Community Engagement Groups There are currently groups in West and East County. We provide staff support, child care, translation services, and dinner at each monthly meeting. We will also provide training on leadership/advocacy, grant writing, and other topics group members select. Each Regional Group will receive up to $10,000 to conduct projects that makes the region a better place for young children and their families. About Community Engagement The Commission is participating in a pilot project sponsored by six foundations. This project aims to create ongoing, meaningful opportunities to engage community members in Proposition 10 work, particularly community members who do not usually get involved. Strategic Plan Participation Over 500 community members provided input into the development of the Commissions strategic plan. 20 community meetings were held throughout the county and a survey was distributed to parents, including teen parents and parents of children with special needs. This input helped the Commission develop a strategic plan that addressed the needs expressed by the community. Community Conversations How can Contra Costa be a better place for families with young children? 170 community members participated in 8 community conversations to answer this question.
