(Rodeo)—Many Rodeo and Crockett families are expected to volunteer for the Clean the Creek effort along the Rodeo Creek Trail on July 27, 2002 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This effort aims to bring the entire community together and make the Rodeo Creek Trail a safer place for local families.

A group of volunteer parents, who participate on the Youth Activities Development Association of Rodeo and Crockett, Inc. (YADA), received a $5,000 Family-Friendly Community Grant from the Contra Costa Children and Families Commission, the group charged with allocating Proposition 10 tobacco tax revenue, to conduct a project that benefits families with young children.

“The Rodeo Creek trail is a path that links the entire community and should be a point of pride for the community,” said Coleen Lento, YADA board member. “We want the community to feel proud and safe when using the trail. Our efforts will help make it a more family-friendly place.”

Child care and arts and crafts activities will be available for parent volunteers with young children. A barbeque for participating families will follow the clean-up effort, and all volunteers will receive a T-shirt while supplies last. YADA has partnered with the Rodeo Chamber of Commerce for the Event. Please bring along your gloves, rakes and shovels if you have them.

The Youth Activities Development Association of Rodeo and Crockett, Inc. (YADA) is a community-based organization that formed last year to focus public attention on the needs of local youth. YADA is run by parent volunteers, and plans to develop a community center for local teens in Rodeo. YADA meets the last Thursday of each month at the Lefty Gomez recreation building, 470 Parker Avenue, in Rodeo, 510-799-7592.
